Life’s simple nourishment

The Breath of Life

As I surrendered, I began to taste the breath on my lips and weave
deep into my body.
It was the first time I had ever truly
breathed like this and grief overtook me.

I realized how I had sacrificed my own life.
I saw how I had been suffocating, even while life’s most simple
nourishment waited at the door of every moment.
How did I not know?
Withering away while life offered up herself with such generosity

Then tears of ecstasy ran down my cheeks,
Like a baby, my whole body awakened, as I surrendered in the overwhelming delight
of life breathing life back into me again.

“Listen—are you breathing just a little, and calling it a life?”
